Non-oriented silicon steels are widely used in a variety of rotating parts such as motors and small transformer cores. In recent years;with the competition in the market;the products with low iron loss;high magnetic induction have been developed and at the same time;much attention are paid to the improvement of the surface quality. The surface inclusions are one of the common defects in non-oriented silicon steels;but the related defect characters and evolution features are rarely investigated. In this paper;by analysis of the characters of the defects;the hot coils with typical defects were chosen to do experiments through shot blasting;normalized annealing, pickling, cold rolling and final annealing. It was founded that the defects can be eliminated for steels with low Si and Al content while the defects cannot be eliminated for steels with medium or high Si and Al content.Based on the experimental results;a semi-quantitative model was proposed.Evolution features of surface inclusions with different Si and Al content were also discussed with deformation resistance of different Si and Al content.Especially;some coils with the defects can be cut through final finishing process to achieve the purpose of the elimination of the defects.
