In this presentation,we describe an ab initio calculation for intrinsic spin hall angle (SHA) in bulk tungsten,where both alpha (α-W) and beta (β-W) phases are taken into consideration.We find that due to the strong spin-orbital-coupling,both phases have large negative spin hall conductivity (SHC),with the SHC of β-W about forty percent larger than that of α-W in magnitude.Significantly,the charge resistivity of α-W is very small,while that of β-W is about dozen times larger,causing that the SHA of β-W is about dozen times larger than that of α-W.Large SHC along with large resistivity introduces a large SHA.These results clearly explain why β-W has the largest SHA among all single transition metals.Moreover,chemical potential tuning can further enhance the SHA for β-W which provides a powerful guidance to experiment.
