Rapid improvements of nonlinear bulk or waveguide crystal technologies have made frequency up-conversion of weak laser light,by sum frequency generation with light from a high power pump laser in a nonlinear crystal,an efficient and useful approach in a variety of fields,e.g.the generation of laser light with new wavelengths,production of non-classical light,long distance quantum entanglement distribution,and infrared single photon detection.
