Objective: The present study aims to investigate that LED light-activated curumin induced the damages of Escherichiacoli(E.coli).Materials and methods: E.coli was incubated with different concentrations of curcumin for 60 min and irradiated by blue light from a light-emitting diodes(LED)source.After photodynamic treatment,bacterial colony forming units(CFU)were investigated usingcolony formation assay.Membrane integrity was measured confocal laser scanning microscopy(CLSM)with PI staining.The ultrastructural morphology was observed using a transmission electron microscopy(TEM).Results: CFU assay showed that photodynamic treatment of curcuminsignificantly killed E.coli.TEM showed that cell membrane break and more vacuoles.CLSM showed more PI dye in E.colicellsafter photodynamic treatment of curcumin.Conclusion:Photodynamic treatment of curcumin damaged membrane permeability,resulting in death of E.colicells.
