According to the design requirements provided by a company,a one-dimensional aerodynamic design was first conducted for an axial turbine in a ship turbocharger by means of thermal calculations for impulse-pressure turbines.The agreement between the calculated results and the experimental data proved that the design met the requirements.Then,three-dimensional numerical simulations were performed to study the flow field under designed conditions using a commercial CFD software – NUMECA,specifically developed for the flow analysis of turbo-machinery.The 3-D predictions agreed well with the available experimental data.This indicated that the adopted numerical methods and models were reasonable and accurate.Additionally,based on the numerical predictions,local improvements were made on internal flow passage and the iso-entropy efficiency was relatively increased by 3.27%.
