Chemotherapy can damage gonad function and sex hormone production.Bone marrow stem cells (BMSCs) transplantation can improve gonad function and reduce apoptosis of steroidogenic cells.The aim was to explore whether steroidogenic genes could be expressed in BMSCs.Methods: BMSCs were separated from SD rat bone marrow and were cultured in DMEM supplemented with 10% fetal bovine serum.The expressions of SF-1, StAR, P450scc and P450arom genes in BMSCs were detected and analyzed using quantitative real-time PCR.Results: BMSCs freshly isolated expressed StAR, P450scc and P450arom genes and cultured BMSCs from primary, first and second passage all expressed SF-1, StAR, P450scc and P450 arom genes.The expression levels of genes in BMSCs were nuch lower than that in positive control testis.The results suggest that a small number of cells in the BMSCs have steroidogenic cell characterization.Conclusion: BMSCs can spontaneous differentiate into steroidogenic cells in vivo and in vitro.
