Rice is a stable crop for over half of the worlds population.In Asia,rice provides more than 30% of the daily consumed calories.With the increasing population,the demand for rice production is expected to rise persistently in the coming years.However,rice productivity is often hampered by pathogen attack,such as the fungal pathogen (Magnaporthe oryzae).Considerable work has recently been undertaken to understand the genetic basis of putative blast-resistant traits in rice,but due to pathogen evolution,resistance ability conferred by the resistant genes will be overcome after a few seasons.Consequently,further effort to identify new blast resistant genes and incorporate them in rice cultivars remain paramount.
