Objective:The large defects following ablation of tumors and tumor-like lesions in the oral and maxillofacial region remain a problem in patients functional and esthetical rehabilitations. The supraclavicular artery island flap(SCAIF)has proved good outcomes in head and neck reconstruction, but is limited when there is quite a loss of soft tissues. Methods:We performed the reconstruction with a modified SCAIF,including part of the trapezius muscle flexibly according to the defect.Six patients underwent the procedure.Complications, donor and reconstructed area outcomes were assessed. Results:The final results were optional in terms of cosmetic and functional recovery. At present, the patients are free from recurrence and satisfied with their facial profile and oral function. Conclusion:The modified SCAIF is an innovative and versatile reconstructive option for immediate reconstruction in the oral and maxillofacial region. We suggest its adoption in cases where needs large amounts of soft tissues.
