Hybrid functional nanomaterials comprising inorganic (semiconductor, or metal colloidal nanocrystals) and / or organic (metallo-organic dyes, light-emitting polymers) components allow us to design specific useful function in terms of light harvesting, light emission, and separation/utilization of charges.Recent advances in solution-based colloidal synthesis and assembly offer the control over the size, shape, arrangement, and topology of hybrid nanomaterials, enabling complex multi-component structures to be created with nanometer precision.We will review our recent efforts on fabrication and optical studies of hybrid nanostructures with a specific aim of charge transfer between components [1], and demonstrate their use in photovoltaics [2] and hydrogen generation [3].
