Objective To introduce our experience in endovascular treatment of distal aneurysms of intracranial arteries. Methods 41 patients with 46 aneurysms (38 ruptured, 8 unruptured) were treated with endovascular embolization, Among them, 4 aneurysms were treated with intra-aneurysmal coiling, 42 were treated with intra-aneurysmal embolization together with occlusion of the parent arteries just proximal to the aneurysms.Thirty-one aneurysms were treated with detachable coils, 15 were treated with glue or ONYX.Results All the procedures were successful without related death. Two aneurysms ruptured during procedure without severe neurological deficits. When the parent arteries were blocked, collateral circulation appeared in most cases, and only 2 cases presented with ischemic complications due to the occlusion of parent arteries. Conclusion Embolizing aneurysms along with the parent arteries proximal to them is an effective and safe treatment modality for distal aneurysms of intracranial arteries.
