DNA 在抗肿瘤药物的开发过程中是一种较为理想的生物靶标，而DNA 嵌入剂能够较好的嵌入双螺旋的DNA 碱基对中间，这就为设计DNA 靶向抗肿瘤药物提供了基础。具有平面刚性结构的发色团分子常作为DNA靶向分子在抗肿瘤药物的设计和体外筛选方面发挥重要作用。
