  In mammals,the inner ear consists of cochlear and vestibular system.The cochlear mediates hearing.The mature vestibular system,which is responsible to detect acceleration and keep balance,have five patches of sensory domains,the uticular macula,saccular macula,and three cristae located in the base of each semicircular canals.During the inner ear development,pro-sensory domains are specified at specific regions in the otic vesicle,hereafter they undergo precise growth and morphogenesis to form a structurally complex sensory organ.Thus,how the pro-sensory domains are specified,maintained and how the morphogenesis happens are important questions.Previous studies have shown that Jag1,a Notch ligand,is required for the specification or maintenance of the pro-sensory domains.However how the pro-sensory domains undergo precise morphogenesis to form separate sensory domains is largely unknown.
