  The direct methanol fuel cell (DMFC) is studied intensively due to many advantages such as high energy density,the ease of handling,and low operation temperature.Carbon nanotubes (CNTs) are unique and ideal templates for the attachment of nano structured noble metal catalysts with good electrical and chemical properties.A conventional chemical reduction based method generally used for the synthesis of Ptbased electrocatalysts takes long hours.However,microwave irradiation assisted chemical reduction takes only few minutes.This method allows a substance to heat uniformly and instantaneously at the reaction sites through the reaction vessel,which leads to more homogeneous nucleation and shorter crystallisation time compared to the conventional methods.
