Graphene oxide (GO) is one of the most prominent derivatives ofgraphene. It is widely used in different areas and emerging technologies due to its atomic thickness, high specific area, hydrophilic nature and outstanding mechanical strength. This study seeks to prepare GO-based membranes using solution casting method which has potential for large scale production.GO composite membranes were fabricated on polysulfone support and tested for pervaporation dehydration of 90wt% aqueous acetic acid. The effect of poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) content as an additive in GO solution was also investigated in which GO casting solutions incorporated with small amount of PVA were varied from 0wt% to 8wt% PVA based on GO.The composite membranes were characterized using water contact angle, ATR-FTIR and SEM.The membrane with the highest separation performance contains 8wt% PVA based on GO having a permeation flux of 289.67 g/m2hr and water concentration in permeate of 89.59%.This study suggests that adding PVA, even at small amounts, in GO solution results in higher pervaporation performance of the GO-based composite membranes.
