The site of the East Hualin is located on the second terrace of the north bank of Qingshuihe, a tributary of the East Hulin Village in Mentougou, Mentougou District, Beijing, with a riverbed of 25 meters above the riverbed. This site was discovered in 1966 by students from Department of Geology and Geography at Peking University during an internship in Mentougou District. The Institute of Vertebrate Paleontology and Paleoanthropology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, conducted a cleanup of the site and initially concluded that it was a Neolithic tombs. There are three remains in this tomb, one with the remains of a girl of about 16 years old and the other two with adult males. They are named “East Hualin”. Because the tombs were located at the bottom of the Holocene loess and the top of Malan loess, the researchers set their age as early Neolithic. In 1985, the East Huaren site was listed as a key cultural relic protection unit in Mentougou District.
