Prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) is a potent lipid mediator produced by metabolism of arachidonic acid via a cascade of enzymatic processes of cyclooxygenases (COX-1 and COX-2) and PGE synthases (PGESs).PGE2 participates in blood pressure regulation through multiple membrane-associated G protein-coupled receptors, i.e.EP 1, EP2, EP3 and EP4.Although intravenous infusion of PGE2 results in a significant reduction in blood pressure, each EP receptor may exert distinct effects on blood pressure.
