There is increasing evidence that circulating tumour cell (CTC) presence in patient blood is an important indicator of poor prognosis. Thus, quantification of CTCs may advance prognosis. To quantify and characterise melanoma CTCs we isolated CTCs using a cocktail of immunomagnetic beads labelled with melanoma markers. An average recovery of 85% was obtained when a melanoma cell line (A2058) wasspiked into whole blood from healthy volunteers.
