Chromosomal ends are protected from degradation and DNA repair activities by telomeres.Telomere maintenance depends on precise associations between telomeric DNA and its associated proteins.Telomeric repeat binding factor 1 (TRF1) was the first identified telomere-associated protein,which can bind double-stranded telomeric DNA and interacts with some important proteins that are essential for the maintence of telomeric DNA.
