Objective:The aim of our study was to determine whether the formation of cystic cavities can be detected and measured in 3D using a novel,high-resolution SRμCT in a preclinical rat model of posttraumatic syringomyelia.Method:The rat model of posttraumatic syringomyelia was established using the infinite Horizon Impactor to produce spinal cord injury, followed by a subarachnoid injection of kaolin to produce arachnoiditis.Image evaluation was performed on each animal using SRμCT combined with a histological test 10 weeks after injury. The 3D morphology of the cystic cavities and surrounding microvasculature were vividly depicted using SRμCT.The minimum and maximum lengths were quantitatively analyzed and were largely consistent with the histological assessment. Moreover, the volume of the cavities could also be calculated from the SRμCT 3D images.
