The adult day care (ADC) service has been available in China since the 1980s and developed fast along with the rapidly aging population in the first decade of the new century. The understanding of the diversified demands of the elderly for the day care is the premise for the engagement of multiple service providers in the day care facility development.Based on Andersen behavioral model of health service utilization and the parameters of day care scheme proposed by Kalish, the research made ten plan cards by use of orthogonal design based on the requirements of conjoint analysis, four attributes each one with two levels that influence the choice of the ADC were considered. There are 102 old people investigated in total. The result shows that usage of ADC service is mainly as a result of reducing loneliness and relieving labor burden of household duties.According to the importance of influence in facility choice, the four attributes can be listed in descending order as follows: " Payment method" (29.1%)," Regional location" (27.1%),"Commuting ways" (24.9%),"Service type" (18.9%).The old peoples most favorite combination of ADC attribute level was living service, less than 15 minuteswalk, with partial government subsidy and proximity to hospital. Moreover, the combination with the least preference was nursing care, shuttle bus, completely self-financing,proximity to park and cultural facility.Additionally, the conjoint analysis model can simulate choosing results with different ameliorating strategies applied.According to the result of conjoint analysis, preference given by the elderly to facilities after revision of service attributes could be determined through calculations, and sensibility analysis of facility service attributes could be conducted. As a demonstration of such working method, the research compared the fluctuation levels of attractiveness with the consideration of alternative attributes. In summary, conjoint analysis method is applied to explore preference of different attributes during ADC selection of the elderly, which provides risk control tool for privatization of ADC at the start-up stage with unclear development prospect.More extensive investigation may be conducted in the future to provide basis for policy-making in the ADC facility planning.
