Sequence analysis showed there are two new mutations (B1 and E2+755) in the coding region of BMP15 gene in Xinjiang Cele Black Sheep.the mutation B1 missed CTT base in the exon 1 at position 28-30, The other mutation, E2+755, is a T to C base change in position 755 of exon 2, resulting in Leucine being replaced by Proline at this position in BMP15 protein(L253P).The characterization of BMP 15 gene suggested that the B 1 does not influent litter size in Cele Black Sheep.Ewes heterozygous with (B+) of L253P had significant different higher litter size from that of the wild genotype ewes (P<0.05), Comprehensive analysis suggests that L253P is a mutation affecting fecundity in Cele Black Sheep.
