Since the molecular mechanism underlying cerebral edema is not clear,the treatment of cerebral edema has remained unchanged for the past 90 years.Recent studies have showed that aquaporin 4(AQP4)is highly expressed in astrocytes and plays important role in brain edema,but whether other aquaporin(AQP)subtypes are also expressed in astrocytes is unknown.
