Supercritical fluid processes have gained great attention as a new and environmentally-benign method of preparing the microparticles of high energy materials like explosives and propellants [1-4].In order to develop a process of recrystallizing high energy materials by utilizing supercritical carbon dioxide as an antisolvent,it is important to know the solubilities of high energy materials in the mixtures of organic solvents and supercritical carbon dioxide. In this work,HMX (cyclotetramethylenetetranitramine) and RDX (cyclotrimethylenetrinitramine),which has been being widely used as high explosives not only in military purpose but also in industrial application, were selected as target high energy materials. The organic solvents used in this work were acetone, methyl ethyl ketone,cyclohexanone,acetonitrile,N,N-dimethyl acetamide, and l-methyl-2-pyrrolidinone.The solubilities of HMX and RDX in the mixtures of each solvent with carbon dioxide were determined by measuring the cloud point temperatures as a function of the mixture composition using a high-pressure equilibrium apparatus equipped with a variable-volume view cell. The solubility values were measured at 20 MPa and in the temperature range of 30℃ to 60℃.The effect of organic solvent on the solubilities of HMX and RDX was studied.
