Polynuclear Aromatic Hydrocarbons (PAHs) are common pollutants with highly carcinogenic properties and heavily regulated both in the USA and in the European Union (EU).However, the regulated PAHs in the United States are not the same as those in the European Union. This leads to difficulties when trying to create a gas chromatographic screening method that can be used for either or both sets of PAHs.Isomers from one group tend to co-elute with the isomers of the other, which causes sacrifices in resolution and therefore quantitation. The proposed method allows both sets of PAH pollutants to be analyzed simultaneously while surpassing current EPA requirements for resolution.
