Arabidopsis CTR1 (Constitutive Triple Responsel) is a Raf-like protein that acts with the ethylene receptors to negatively regulate ethylene signaling. To isolate components that are involved in the negative regulation, a genetic screen was carried out for the isolation of enhancer mutations of the weak CTR1 allele ctr1-10.ecr2 (enhancing ctr1-10 ethylene response2) was isolated in the genetic screen, and degrees of the constitutive ethylene response in ecr2 ctr1-10 were comparable to that in the strong allele ctr1-1.ECR2 was mapped to the centromere region at chromosome 2.Genetic analyses and transformation studies suggested that ECR2 could act downstream to ethylene receptors and upstream to the transcription factors Ethylene Insensitive3 (EIN3) and EIN3-Like1 (EIL1).
