　　Conventional municipal wastewater treatment which includes primary treatment processes for physical removal of suspended solids and secondary treatment processes for biological removal of organic matter generates large volumes of sludge.Sludge treatment and disposal is a costly operation and nearly half of municipal wastewater treatment plants costs are derived from sludge management.
