The objective of the present paper was to study the optical absorption properties of a soda-lime glass codoped with chromium and iron using chromium-rich ashes from the incineration of tannery sludge as source of chromium and compare their spectral data with a Cr-Fe co-doped glass prepared using chromite(typical industrial source of chromium used for industrial green glass fabrication)and two commercial glasses(also manufactured using chromite)in order to evaluate the use of the chromium-rich ashes as a potential alternative source of chromium for the manufacturing of soda-lime glasses. The glass samples were prepared by melting the industrial raw materials(low iron sand, soda ash,and limestone)together with appropriate amounts of chromium sources(chromium-rich ashes or chromite),in alumina crucibles at 1500℃ for 2 hours.
