Rice is primary food for many regions in South Asia and Latin America. However, the technology of rice growing and high rated of the traditional agrochemicals results in accumulation of the heavy metals in rice.Today is available many literature data which showed that using of the active forms of Si(Si fertilizers or Si-rich soil amendments)can dramatically reduce heavy metal content in rice.Considering that Si is important for rice growing and provide increasing rice yield quality and quantity, the application of this type agrochemicals can be included in to general practice of rice production. However, the application of just Si-rich substances cant guarantee positive effect on yield and quality of rice.New technologies for reduction of the heavy metals in rice are necessary.Such technologies require fundamental understanding about migration and transformation of the heavy metals in plant body.New method for testing of the soluble forms of silicon and heavy metals in the apoplast and symplast in plant tissue and method for determination of the total content of these elements were elaborated. The greenhouse and field tests with rice were conducted with using traditional and elaborated methods. The obtained results showed that active forms of Si has dramatical effect on Si status of the rice, yield of rice, quality of rice and on migration and transformation of the heavy metals in the soil-plant system. The different heavy metals also have different behavior in the soil-plant system. It is known that monosilicic acid can regulate the mobility of the heavy metals in soil.Polysilicic acids and solid forms of Si can adsorb heavy metals and reduce their mobility in the system. Our investigations showed that the concentration of the monosilicic acid and polysilicic acids in symplast and apoplast of rice plant tissue are extremely high – form several hundred to several thousand mg per liter. The soluble forms of Si in rice constitute largest part form total content of Si in plant tissue. The content and concentration of Si depend on type Si fertilizer or Si-rich soil amendments. The obtained data has demonstrated that using of the advanced Si fertilizers has higher effect on the quality of rice via reduction of the heavy metal content in grain. However, the complicity of the interaction between active forms of Si and heavy metals in the soil-plant system requires precisely adaptation of the Si-base technology for various soil-climatic situations.
