Grassclipping,corn straw,catalpa sawdust and pine sawdust were pretreated with high-pressure homogenization(HPH)to enhance the enzymatic digestibility.With a working pressure of 10 MPa,all four types of lignocellulosic biomass were significantly changed,the average particle size decreased,the crystalline structure changed and the accessible surface areaexpanded.Over 48h of enzymatic hydrolysis,grass clipping yielded the most reducing sugar(229.42mg/g)after HPH pretreatment.Corn strawreached thehighest increase rate of enzymatic hydrolysis(61.23%).The characteristic of low lignin and low crystallinity of grass clipping made it the most suitable raw material for HPH pretreatment.This study indicated that lignocellulosic biomass pretreated after HPH yielded higher reducing sugar which was suitable for subsequent biorefining process to produce biofuels.Compare with many traditional pretreatment methods,HPH can increase the output in a mild condition without adding any chemical.
