The impacts of El Ni(n)o and La Ni(n)a on the rainfall over southern China in winter half year (November-April) are investigated diagnostically. It is found that positive rainfall anomalies with statistical significance appear over southern China in El Ni(n)o episode but no reversed significant rainfall anomalies in La Ni(n)a episode, although negative and positive convective anomalies with comparable intensity exist around western tropical pacific in El Ni(n)o and La Ni(n)a periods, respectively.
