Many pregnant women are exposed to inhalation anesthetics (including isoflurane) for non-obstetric surgery1.The commonly used inhalation anesthetic isoflurane could permeate rapidly through the placental barrier, and thus cause toxicity to the central nervous system of the developing fetus2,3.E-cadherin-mediated cell-cell contact is also critical for the generation of induced pluripotent stem cells.
