In the present work,the B stage pitch resin was synthesized,with a link agent(PXG)and a catalyst(PTS),from FCC slurrys aromatic enriched component(FCCDF).As a basic matrix for carbon materials,B stage pitch resin should have good properties for thermosetting.Two kinds of thermosetting procedures,1-step and 2-step thermosetting procedure were employed.IR and DSC analysis of thermoset B stage pitch resin showed that there were at least two reactions,ring-close and dehydrogenation reaction taking place in the process of thermosetting.The thermoset pitch resin from 2-step thermosetting procedure possessed better thermal resistance than that of the 1-step thermoset pitch resin.The optimum thermosetting conditions were 140℃/15h and 210℃/1h.The pyrolysis temperature of the thermoset pitch resin was 400℃ above and the weight loss at 800℃ was close to 50 wt%.Pitch resin is a potential resin matrix for the composite material.
