In March, 2007, capillary flow technology (CFT) was introduced by Agilent Technologies.As part of this technology suite, a novel gas phase microfluidic diffusion bonded manifold was commercialized.Different from the previous generations of switches which involve the use of multi-port valves or connectors, this novel device is made based on diffusion bonding technology which bonds two metal plates together under high pressure and temperature to create microfluidie flow channels embedded within the plates.The surface-inertness, ultra low dead-volume, and easy-to-use device has the potential of being implemented in GC for several applications such as heart-cuRing (Deans switch), column back-flushing, vent-free removal of columns for mass spectrometry, un-purged effluent splitter for tandem detectors, purged three-way effluent splitter and comprehensive two dimensional gas chromatography.
