Diabetic nephropathy (DN) is one of the most serious complications associated with diabetes and the major cause of end stage renal disease. The typical changes of DN include thickness in filtration basal membrane and enlargement of renal glomeruli;comprehensive interstitial fibrosis. All the changes are derived from glomeruli epithelial cell dysfunction, podocyte apoptosis, mesangial cell and interstitial fibroblast proliferations and excessive extracellular matrix protein synthesis, as well as tubular epithelial to mesenchymal transition.
