Objectives In China, the development of medical conditions in different areas is unequal.The pediatric healthcare providers in remote areas and primary hospitals have less opportunity to acquire the up-to-date idea and knowledge in pediatric emergency and critical care, due to the lack of funds, faculty, ideas and strategies of simulation training and so on.In line with the spirit of 'train-trainer' , with the support of Project HOPE (Health Opportunities for People Everywhere), the faculty and instructors of our hospital went to the remote areas, with the mannequins and other training aids, provided the training of pediatric emergency and critical care to the medical staff in these areas, and instilled in them new ideas and teaching methods, in order to improve the teaching and medical level in these areas.Description In 6 years (from 2008 to 2013), the training team of our hospital composed of several faculties and instructors, went to the different remote and poor areas mainly located in west and north China, implemented 2 to 4 times of training each year, totally 17 times in this 6 years, and 994 person participated in the training.The trainers carried mannequins and simulators, such as pediatric advanced resuscitation mannequins, intubation models, bone marrow puncture models, etc., and also including the books of the course.The training courses include pediatric basic and advanced life support, the skills of pediatric emergency and the management of pediatric respiratory critical condition, which is based on national continuous education and simulation method.Most of the trainees benefited from the training, 84% of the trainees thought it very useful, and 89.5% of the trainees were very satisfied with the training methods and contents.Achievements include opening avenues for further education and clinical work (63.5%), improving operational skills (54.6%), enriching knowledge (41.9%), and improving clinical ability (36.4%).Project HOPE gave us the great support (including financial support) in this training program, and the trainers devoted a great deal of time and effort into this project.Conclusions This program promoted the spread of the knowledge and skills of pediatric emergency and critical care in remote areas in China, and instilled in them new ideas and training methods.Most of the trainees benefited from the training, were very satisfied with the training methods and contents.In the future, we will establish fixed training site to provide the same quality of training to pediatric medical staff in different areas and healthcare conditions of hospitals.
