China is facing social difficulties of severe aging trend that "retirement community" has become a promoting new type of aging model beside "family support" and "institution care".Retirement community requires higher quality of environment design and facility layout,and demands improving systematic evaluation index.By analyzing domestic and international evaluation laws,standards,literature about age-friendly communities,four sub-indicators,including community surroundings,community public environment,residential building design,and community care services and management,were identified,as well as their secondary indicators.Through field investigation on daily life of the elderly in 100 communities from large cities with high proportion of aged population in different areas of China,the distribution of elderly activities in time and space was analyzed and summarized,as well as the subjective requirements for functionality and safety of the community public space and facilities.Statistic showed that currently the "empty nest" families in big cities have exceeded 50% of all the elderly families,and more than 70% in total with the elderly living alone,thus the necessity and urgency of social aging services can be seen.With statistical analysis of survey data,the correlations between "age-friendliness" and environment,facilities and services are explored.The four sub-indicators of satisfaction were all significantly correlated with overall satisfaction,and the community public environment especially has the greatest affect,while residential building design has the least.This means that the elderly people concern and require more on community environment,facilities and services than residential building itself.Statistic also demonstrated that most elderly people tend to go to commercial facilities such as supermarkets and pharmacies more frequently,concerning site accessibility and transportation safety of community environment,and home injury prevention should be focused on obstacle or narrow spaces.Finally,it can be derived that the elderly have requirements in all three types of social service including housework,health,and emotion.Applying the approach of correlation coefficient calculation between "sub-indicators of satisfaction"and "overall satisfaction",AHP analysis and subjective investigation data statistics on the second and third level sub-indicators,weight of all items in the evaluation index got results,that revealed the factors behind the subjective assessment.Thus a set of relatively objective satisfaction evaluation index system for retirement community is established,as a guide for community new construction or renovation.
