Sediment records from Tibetan lakes record dramatic climatic variability of the Tibetan Plateau in NW China during the Holocene. Here we investigated ancient communities of photosynthetic microbial communities in Kusai and Qinghai Lake on the Tibetan Plateau and their responses to important climatic events in the late Holocene(ie.,fossil DNA).

Brackish and saline lakes are common in the arid zones of the Earth. They are unique ecosystems with extremely high pH values and high mineralization levels(up to saturating concentrations).

Salinity is an important factor controlling the microbial distribution in lakes. However little is known about how microbial communities evolve in response to salinity variation.
In recent years, lakes, including salted, attract the attention of researchers, also when reconstructing last climate changes using the bottom sediments(Solotchina et al.,2008,et al.).
