Li-Ni-Mn spinels of nonstoichiometric LiNi0.5Mn15O4-δ(o-LNMO)and stoichiometric LiNi0.5Mn1.5O4(d-LNMO),which are functional cathode materials in high-voltage lithium-ion batteries[1].Here,partial substitution of Fe for Ni and Mn in the 5 V spinel cathode LiNi0.sMn1.5O4 has been investigated by soft and hard X-ray absorption.The surface electronic structure in iron doped d-LNMO has been altered by the extra electrons when substitutions are made.It has been found that cation substitution can effectively modify surface electronic structure,leading to enhanced cycle lite ofthe batteries.
