Triacylglycerides (TAGs) are a large class of complex neutral lipids that naturally occur in both plants and animals. These compounds are important to organisms as they are the main energy resource for biological activities, but when the TAGs were excessively accumulated they could cause metabolic syndromes such as obesity and diabetes. This needs us to better understand the individual TAG molecules or profile their changes in organism and firstly we should isolate these compounds.A direct and effective way to do this is to perform chromatography. However, TAG species are very complex since they are composed by the seterification of a glycerol backbone with three fatty acids, any change of the position or chain length or the number or position of the double bonds of the fatty acids changed the TAG molecule. Thus the separation of TAG puts more demands on the efficiency and peak capacity of the separation approach and an elegant option for this is the comprehensive two dimensional liquid chromatography.
