Automotive industries are one of the most competitive activities.Great pressure is handled by all rank suppliers.The increase of engine temperature to improve efficiency and reduce pollution,the reduction of weight and higher durability request,pushes exhaust manufacturers to investigate new ideas and designs.Exhaust systems material challenges are usually classified in two categories : high temperature issues and corrosion issues.Price,high formability,good weldability,high thermo - mechanical fatigue resistance,are some of the critical constraints that these systems need to face.Faurecia s experience and expertise,has enable us to propose competitive exhaust systems throughout the years.Today s solutions are based on carbon steels and stainless steels including ferritic and austenitic steels.In leading exhaust activity,material selection and development is crucial and continuous improvement is a key factor to success.Better understanding of constraints such as temperature requirement,vibration level,cyclic loading,aggressive environment,material combination in exhaust application,helps to optimize material selection and give hints for new material developments.Collaborative work between steel supplier and exhaust manufacturers will improve the quality of the products and enable the development of advanced emission control systems.
