The eastern margins of Africa and Arabia are composed of an extremely diverse set of tectonic provinces,including some of the oldest cratons on Earth,two of the highest continental plateaux not associated with a convergent plate boundary,the most extensive Cenozoic continental rift system on Earth,a large igneous province,and two developing narrow oceanic basins.
