Sugar ester is a kind of nonionic emulsifier for food ingredient,and its consumption is increasing.Separation of sugar ester from the mixture of sugar ester and unreacted sugar is crucial for the production of sugar ester.In this work,a simulated moving bed (SMB) process was proposed for the separation.In order to obtain the necessary data for the design of the process,breakthrough tests using single column were performed.Through the analysis of breakthrough curves,equilibrium adsorbed amounts and mass transfer coefficients for the sugar ester and sugar on the selected adsorbent were calculated.With the calculated data,the behavior of a SMB process of 12 columns was simulated.
