Perfumes are complex mixtures characterized by fragrant essential oils and aroma components, fixatives, as well as solvents.The objective of their employment is to generate pleasant odours in living areas and on human bodies.Fragrances are also considered to be one of the sources of allergic contact dermatitis, due to the presence of skin-sensitizing ingredients, generally defined as allergens.Of recent, twenty-four of these have been listed by the European Commission Scientific Committee on Cosmetics and other Non-Food Products (SCCNFP): the regulation foresees that allergens, in excess of 1 00 mg/kg in rinse-off and of 10 mg/kg in leave-on products, must be label-reported.Consequently, the development of rapid and effective processes for the unravelling of perfume profiles is currently of great interest.
