From autotrophism to parasitism:Sequence variation and evolution of chloroplast genomes in Orobancha

  Orobanchaceae are a family of angiosperms that contains full autotrophic,hemi-parasitism,and holoparasitism.It provides us with a convenient way to study the chloroplast genome evolution of different lifestyles.In this study,we sequenced the plastomes of five Pedicularis species and compared them with those from other 28 species of the Orobanchaceae to elucidate that sequence variation in the chloroplast genomes of hemi-parasitic plants serve as a transitional stage between autotrophy and parasitism.The five Pedicularis species chloroplast genomes ranged from 152,907 bp(Pedicularis muscicola)to 155,159 bp(Pedicularis cheilanthifolia)in length,including 133 genes encoding 88 proteins,37 tRNAs,and 8 rRNAs.
