The Wnt signaling pathway has been reported to play essential roles in embryonic patterning among all the examined metazoans.Recent studies on Wnt genes in the basal chordate amphioxus embryogenesis have shed important insights on the evolution of vertebrate Wnt genes and their functions.Nevertheless, the potential roles of Frizzled (Fz) molecules, a family of putative Wnt/Norrin receptors during amphioxus early embryogenesis remain to be investigated and furthermore their function diversifications during chordate evolution are unclear yet. Here we identified four Fz genes in the genomes of two amphioxus species (Branchiostoma belcheri and B.floridae).
