糖基化是普遍而且重要的一种蛋白质翻译后修饰的过程，由糖基转移酶这一大家族完成.N-乙酰氨基半乳糖转移酶(ppGalNAc-T)则是催化O-糖基化起始的糖基转移酶家族，由于糖蛋白表面糖链的异常变化可以影响改变细胞的正常生物特性，与肿瘤关系密切.
