Measurement and Prediction of Phase Behavior for Imidazolium-based Ionic Liquids and CO2

  Owing to its many advantages including its negligible vapor pressure,ionic liquid has been considered as green solvents that can replace volatile organic solvents [1].Among many possible ionic liquids imidazolium based ionic liquids have been much more studied [2] than any other ionic liquids.For example,Anthony et al.[3] thoroughly investigated anion effects on gas solubility in imidazolium cation including ionic liquids recently.In this study,the high pressure phase equilibrium behavior of binary mixtures containing 1-aikyl-3-methylimidazolium tetrafluoroborate and CO2 was determined.An experimental apparatus equipped with a variable-volume view cell has been used to determine the phase behavior.Phase transitions for ionic liquids and CO2 system were measured for several different CO2 concentrations (ranging from 10 to 90 mole percent) and temperature and pressure ranges of 288-323 K and 0-35 MPa,respectively.The Peng-Robinson equation of state was used to predict the phase behavior.
