Valsalva retinopathy is a condition in which increased intraocular venous pressure causes subhyaloid, intraretinal or vitreous haemorrhages.It occurs secondary to Valsalva manoeuvres, such as forceful straining in labour or when lifting, coughing or vomiting.Valsalva retinopathy is a self-limiting condition that in most cases can be managed conservatively with ophthalmological review and outpatient follow-up.
