The coating of BiFeO3-rich particles with SiO2 thin layer are presented and discussed. The shell of SiO2 was directly grown on the surface of BiFeO3-rich particles suspended in aqueous solution by means of a chemical process making use of inorganic precursors.X-ray diffraction analysis revealed that all compositions can form perovskite phase with pseudocubic symmetry. The SiO2 coating can effectively improve the poling condition which result in obvious enhancement of resistivity.A combination of ferroelectric-piezoelectric propertis suggested that the coated BiFeO3-rich ceramics could be a good candidate for high-temperature piezoelectric applications.
