Background Ischemia/reperfusion (I/R) injury remains the major cause of cardiomyocytes loss and cardiac dysfunction.Akt,a serine/threonine kinase which mediates survival signal through the phosphorylation, exerts a powerful cardioprotective effect. However, the phosphorylation of Akt is down-regulated in isehemia hearts, which aggravates I/R injury. The inositol pyrophosphate IP7 (5-diphosphoinositolpentakisphosphate) which is formed by inositol hexakisphosphate kinases (IP6Ks) is a physiologic inhibitor of Akt.This study was designed to investigate the role of IP7 in L/R injury and to test the hypothesis that down-regulating IP7 generation protects against L/R injury.
